5 Foul Proof Healthy Tips to Help You Survive the Holiday Eating Frenzy!

With the upcoming holidays I thought it’d be great to share with you some tips on how to survive the holiday eating frenzy!!

As we ALL know, all too well, healthy eating goes right out the window during the holiday season! We conveniently forget about our health & nutrition and decide to over indulge and splurge on whatever lies in front of us! According to a recent Weight Watchers report, the average American gains around 7-10lbs. between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day!! That’s crazy!!! What kills us with this holiday weight gain is that most of the weight is maintained, even though we promise ourselves to get back on track come January 1st!

I mean it’s totally understandable how this happens to us over the holiday season, there is always a glass of wine, cookies or pies waiting to be handed to us! This is tough to refuse and takes a lot of will power, which not a lot of us have! Plus during the holiday season the supermarkets don’t make it ANY easier there are aisles upon aisles full of tempting goodies screaming your name!!

All of the above along with family dinners, gatherings & parties makes staying on track super tricky!

Let’s face it these things will always be a  HUGE part of the holiday season, and that is totally ok, we just have to arm ourselves beforehand to deal with the challenges a little better!

*Tips on eating healthy during the holiday season: Sticking to your health & nutrition routine during the holidays doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy yourself and some treats. It just means that you should continue to do things in moderation and prepare yourself for the dinners, gatherings & parties!

  • Exercise!! Make sure to mark off some time on your schedule for some exercise! Even if it’s just a few short minutes, this will help you burn off excess calories and also get you in the habit of exercising NOW so you can continue with it after the holidays are over!
  • Balance Your Meals Out: Don’t be tempted to fill up your plate with rich, high caloric food. Instead have a tiny bit of everything, including fruits & veggies! Doing this will still get you that little bit of indulgence in moderation!
  • Prepare for outings: If you have a lot of upcoming events & parties, try eating healthy the days leading up to these events. There is no reason to totally give up your healthy eating during the holidays, all we have to do is learn to manage it a bit more carefully over the holidays!
  • Stock up on Healthy Snacks: Be sure to have some healthy snacks on hand at home during the holidays, that way when you are tempted you can just grab one of those to curb your craving! Also about a 1/2 hour before you leave for  your event or party, have a small snack to hold you over and keep you somewhat full until dinner so you don’t find yourself munching on chips or sweets!
  • Don’t over eat: I know we have always been told that we should eat everything on our plates but you are an adult now, don’t feel obligated to lick your plate clean. When you feel full, stop eating, it’s that simple!

I hope these tips will be useful and help you stay on track over this upcoming holiday season and remember, everything in moderation, moderation is KEY to success in your journey!
